Autumn is generally considered a shoulder season in these parks, according to the research. That can mean a quieter experience than summer, but it does not guarantee solitude. Peak weekends, particularly around Indigenous Peoples Day or Columbus Day weekend, can still be busy at popular foliage destinations.

Acadia National Park Anchors the Fall Foliage Season

Acadia National Park presents perhaps the clearest expression of this seasonal shift.
