Carnival Rewards Sets Sail With Spending Based Status

Carnival Cruise Line launched Carnival Rewards on September 1, 2026. Its launch announcement describes two separate balances: redeemable Rewards Points and Status Qualifying Stars, which determine loyalty status.

Eligible Carnival purchases earn three Points and three Stars per dollar, including gratuities. The four tiers are Red on enrollment, Gold at 10,000 Stars, Platinum at 50,000 and Diamond at 100,000. The first qualifying period runs from September 1, 2026 through December 31, 2028.

Carnival also retains a separate Milestone Recognition Program based on lifetime days sailed. Travelers should distinguish that recognition from the Stars used to earn regular tier status.

Check spending eligibility and posting dates

Carnival's program FAQ confirms the transition from VIFP. It lists exclusions from eligible spending, including government taxes and fees, required cruise fees and expenses, and Fly2Fun air travel. Purchases paid with Rewards Points or certain onboard and future-cruise credits also do not qualify.

The line's rollout update says Points from cruise fare and onboard purchases become available approximately 14 days after a sailing ends. Eligible pre-cruise purchases follow a separate phased rollout through the end of 2026. Members should check those details before assuming every purchase will post on the same schedule.
