JW Marriott has entered the all-inclusive market with the opening of JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa, a 415-room property on the bay of Playa de El Jobo on Costa Rica’s northern coast, according to TravelPulse. For luxury travelers and families, the debut brings together residential-style accommodations, a hotel-within-a-hotel option, children’s programming and a substantial wellness offering under the brand’s first all-inclusive concept worldwide.

JW Marriott announced the opening on Oct. 6, 2026, in a release published by Bolsamania. The brand describes its approach as an immersive experience centered on well-being, dining and connection to the destination, rather than simply a conventional bundled stay.

“The opening of JW Marriott Costa Elena Resort & Spa represents more than our entry into the all-inclusive category; it introduces a new expression of the JW Marriott brand,” said Bruce Rohr, vice president and global brand leader at JW Marriott, according to TravelPulse.

Starting Rates and the All-Inclusive Proposition

The announced rate starts at $900 per person per night, based on double occupancy, according to El Observador CR. The publication places the resort in Playa El Jobo, in La Cruz, Guanacaste, and confirms that accommodations include suites and rooms with direct swim-out access.

The per-person pricing is an important distinction when evaluating the resort: This is not an advertised nightly rate for the entire room. For families, the starting figure also should not be treated as a complete trip budget. The supplied reporting does not establish children’s pricing or the precise inclusion and surcharge rules for dining, wellness treatments, activities and Griffin Club benefits; those terms need confirmation before booking.

The strongest way to assess this debut is therefore through its documented accommodations and facilities, rather than assuming that every experience described in the opening announcement is covered by the starting rate. The resort’s breadth is clear; the detailed package boundaries are not.

Villa-Inspired Rooms and a New Griffin Club

According to TravelPulse, the resort’s guestrooms and suites were designed with a residential, villa-inspired feel, including generously scaled rooms and terraces. Presidential Suites have separate living areas. That distinction matters for travelers prioritizing room layout: Villa-inspired design describes the accommodations’ character, not a promise that every reservation is a stand-alone villa or includes a separate living room.

The opening also introduces the first next-generation JW Marriott Griffin Club, which TravelPulse describes as a hotel-within-a-hotel experience. Select Griffin Club accommodations offer swim-out access, while the Griffin Club Presidential Suite has expansive indoor and outdoor living spaces with coastal views.

Those are category-specific features, not resortwide room attributes. For a family or multigenerational group choosing between accommodations, the meaningful comparison is the actual room configuration and access attached to each category. A terrace, a separate living area and direct pool access serve different priorities; the opening coverage makes clear that they are not interchangeable features of every room.

Dining With Costa Rican Roots

The resort has 15 restaurants and bars, with Costa Rican, Italian, Mexican and Japanese concepts, according to TravelPulse. It also introduces JW Marriott’s first root beer stand, an homage to J. Willard Marriott’s first business. The count encompasses both restaurants and bars, rather than 15 separate restaurants.

El Observador CR provides more detail on the Costa Rican offerings. Leal draws inspiration from Guanacaste’s traditions; Casado is a coastal grill; and Puerto Limón focuses on flavors associated with Afro-Caribbean heritage. Other named concepts include Luciano, Santos, Namuyaki and Boga.

The dining program also incorporates an on-site JW Garden, with produce used in dishes, cocktails and culinary experiences, El Observador CR reports. Together, the regional concepts and garden give the resort’s destination-focused positioning something tangible: Costa Rican influences appear in specific venues and ingredients, alongside the international cuisines documented by TravelPulse.

Wellness, Children’s Activities and 17 Pools

Wellness is a central component of the property, not merely an additional spa amenity. TravelPulse describes a 16,000-square-foot wellness facility encompassing the brand’s first Mindfulness House, Spa by JW and a fitness center. According to the publication, the concept draws inspiration from the legend of Sibú and the four guardians of earth, water, fire and air.

El Observador CR reports that announced experiences include hydrotherapy, sound baths, cacao ceremonies and treatments incorporating volcanic clay and native cacao. These details establish the program’s character and breadth; they should be understood as descriptions of experiences, not evidence of particular health outcomes.

Children have their own programming through the Family JW Club. According to TravelPulse, activities include yoga, story time and art projects. The publication also reports a daily calendar for adults that ranges from movement-based activities and water sports to guided meditation and sound healing.

That combination gives the opening a distinctly family-oriented dimension: Mindful activities are part of the children’s offering as well as the adult wellness program. It is a more specific proposition than simply describing the property as family-friendly, although the named activities alone do not establish suitability for every age.

The aquatic facilities are extensive, too. El Observador CR reports 17 pools, including an oceanfront infinity pool. Alongside the select swim-out accommodations described by TravelPulse, they make water access a prominent part of the resort’s design.

For travelers considering JW Marriott’s first all-inclusive, the most useful distinctions are concrete: the room category, the per-person rate and the experiences covered by the reservation. Costa Elena’s opening establishes a broad luxury offering with recognizable Costa Rican elements; matching those documented features to a family’s needs is the essential next step.
