Casa Cayuco Expands with Eco-Friendly Cabins and Community Health Initiatives in Bocas del Toro

BOCAS DEL TORO, PANAMA — Spring brings fresh developments and meaningful progress to Casa Cayuco, an eco-lodge nestled in the remote reaches of Bocas del Toro. With sustainability at its core, the property is embarking on a new phase of expansion while continuing to support vital health services in the local community.

Casa Cayuco has announced early-stage plans to build new guest cabins using environmentally conscious materials. The designs feature bamboo, a renewable and durable resource that complements the lush tropical surroundings. The cabins are being constructed by the skilled Ngäbe Buglé builders, who have long played a key role in the lodge’s eco-centric architecture.

In a further innovation, the property is testing a sustainable roofing material known as "coco-crete," a composite made from coconut husks collected on-site. This approach not only repurposes organic waste but also improves natural insulation, helping to regulate indoor temperatures in the tropical climate.

Beyond its property developments, Casa Cayuco remains deeply connected to the local Salt Creek community. The Salt Creek Clinic recently hosted three visits from the nonprofit Floating Doctors, who provided essential medical services. Their first mission of the year reached 72 patients, addressing a wide range of medical conditions. Notably, they assessed two children for suspected muscular dystrophy and referred a critically ill patient for emergency care. The mission also included a veterinary outreach, ensuring holistic support for the community's well-being.

For travelers considering a trip, Casa Cayuco highlights September and October as ideal months to visit. Known for their tranquility and lack of tourist crowds, these months also coincide with sea turtle hatching season and calm seas—making them perfect for snorkeling, boating, and wildlife observation.
