NEW YORK — Travel planners clutching an American Express Platinum Card will have a far wider menu of upscale stays to choose from in the months ahead. American Express Travel is folding more than 400 additional high-end properties into its signature hotel portfolios—Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection—according to a press release by American Express. The expansion spreads across 49 fresh destinations and lifts the combined lineup to more than 3,100 hand-picked hotels and resorts in 114 countries, the broadest footprint of any credit-card-issuer hotel program.

What the expansion means for Platinum Card Members

With the latest additions, holders of the Platinum Card can unlock familiar perks in more corners of the globe. Fine Hotels + Resorts (FHR) continues to be the only card-issuer program promising a guaranteed 4:00 p.m. late checkout. Other enduring FHR privileges include complimentary daily breakfast for two, room upgrades at arrival when available, noon check-in where possible, and on-property credits that can be used for dining, spa treatments or activities. The Hotel Collection (THC), which caters to two-night-plus reservations, layers on its own benefits. Guests can expect up to a US$100 property credit, potential room upgrades at check-in and both early arrival and late departure when space permits. For Platinum Card Members, every prepaid reservation made through American Express Travel also accrues Membership Rewards points on top of any hotel-loyalty currency customarily earned.

Added value beyond the room key

Seven out of every ten hotels joining the rosters this year sweeten a stay with at least one special amenity—think complimentary valet parking, gratis minibar selections or personalized welcome gifts. A subset of properties will go even further by offering a free night when travelers meet minimum-night thresholds. Specific booking windows and travel dates apply, so members should consult the fine print before locking in plans.

Spotlight on new destinations and flagship properties

The 49 new destinations range from classic European art capitals to emerging leisure hubs in Asia and the Americas. Among the headline entrants:
  • Collegio alla Querce, Auberge Resorts Collection, Florence, Italy (FHR)
  • Regent Santa Monica Beach, Los Angeles, California (FHR)
  • Viceroy at Ombria Algarve, Algarve, Portugal (FHR)
  • Waldorf Astoria Osaka, Osaka, Japan (FHR)
  • Omni Bedford Springs Resort and Spa, Bedford, Pennsylvania (THC)
Each property has been vetted by American Express Travel’s internal team for service quality, location advantages and the capacity to deliver card-member benefits without friction.

Beyond the hotel lobby: broader American Express Travel perks

Lodging is only one part of the Platinum travel equation. The card unlocks a global network of human help and physical comforts designed to make trips smoother:
  • Travel support from expert consultants based in 23 countries and fluent in 13 languages.
  • Access to discounted premium airfares through the International Airline Program.
  • Entry to more than 1,550 airport lounges across upward of 500 airports thanks to the Global Lounge Collection, including 30 Centurion Lounges.
The lounge footprint continues to grow, with three new Centurion Lounges slated to open in Salt Lake City in 2025, Newark in 2026 and Amsterdam in 2026.

A quick word from the top

“This year’s additions deliver meaningful value and unforgettable experiences to our Platinum Card Members,” American Express Travel President Audrey Hendley said in the release.

How to book—and when to pounce

Platinum Card Members can find the newly added hotels on AmexTravel.com or in the Amex mobile app. To maximize value:
  1. Search both Fine Hotels + Resorts and The Hotel Collection filters for the destination in question. Some cities now feature properties in both programs.
  2. Read the benefit line-items carefully; complimentary nights, spa credits or minibar perks vary by property and may be available only during specified date ranges.
  3. Book prepaid rates through the Amex portal to stack Membership Rewards points alongside hotel-loyalty earnings.
  4. Double-check cancellation policies. While many FHR bookings allow flexibility, each property sets its own rules.

Tips for travelers eyeing the new list

  • Leverage guaranteed late checkout. A 4:00 p.m. departure can translate into almost a full extra day in destination—ideal for late-evening flights.
  • Pair with airline benefits. Use discounted premium fares from the International Airline Program to create a full luxury itinerary for less.
  • Monitor limited-time offers. Free-night promotions tend to disappear quickly once room allotments sell out.
  • Confirm loyalty earnings. Some hotel brands change their mileage or points policies; present your loyalty number at check-in to be safe.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to pay with my Platinum Card?

Yes. Benefits under FHR and THC require payment with an eligible American Express Card. Prepaid rates charged to the card at booking also earn extra Membership Rewards points.

Is every room type upgradeable?

No. Certain high-category suites or villas fall outside the upgrade policy. Check the room description before finalizing a reservation.

Can additional guests share the complimentary breakfast?

FHR covers breakfast for two guests per room. Extra diners may incur a surcharge, depending on hotel policy.

Will I still earn hotel-loyalty points?

In most cases, yes. Provide your loyalty number during booking or at check-in. Program terms can change, so verify specifics directly with the hotel.

What if I need help mid-trip?

Platinum Card Members can call the 24/7 American Express Travel hotline for rebooking, upgrades or emergency assistance anywhere in the world.

The bottom line for luxury-minded travelers

By adding more than 400 properties across 49 destinations, American Express Travel is giving Platinum Card Members unprecedented scope to redeem benefits that stretch a trip’s comfort and value. From guaranteed late checkouts to hidden-gem minibar freebies, the enlarged portfolio encourages travelers to test new regions without sacrificing the familiar cushion of elite-level perks. Whether the goal is a long weekend in Pennsylvania’s Allegheny Mountains or a trans-Pacific jaunt to Osaka, the odds of finding an FHR or THC hotel that fits your itinerary—and boosts your travel rewards balance—just improved dramatically. — Source: American Express press release
