MSC Cruises is expanding its presence in the Bahamas with the development of a new private island located near its existing Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. The as-yet-unnamed destination, referred to internally as "Little Cay," is being built on a natural sandbank and is about one-third the size of Ocean Cay.
The new project is designed to complement Ocean Cay by offering an upscale and nature-integrated experience. According to an MSC spokesperson, "Little Cay presents an opportunity for us to further develop an exclusive luxury experience for our guests… offering an experience that connects guests to nature, pristine beaches, and the beauty of the ocean plus luxury facilities and water features."
The foundation of Little Cay stems from material deposited during the dredging process for Ocean Cay’s adjacent channel and turning basin, effectively transforming previously unused terrain into a luxury retreat. The initiative continues MSC’s vision of eco-conscious development in the region.
MSC Group executive chairman Pierfrancesco Vago emphasized the uniqueness of the project, stating, “We design the island to be an incredible luxury experience. We’re very proud and very happy to have developed again something from nothing like this so we don’t spoil the existing paradise.”
While details about potential use by MSC’s luxury brand, Explora Journeys, remain unconfirmed, the company noted that the project is in its early stages. MSC is currently working closely with Bahamian authorities and development partners to ensure sustainable and environmentally mindful progress.
The timeline for completion and further plans for Little Cay have yet to be announced.
