8 Halloween Hotel Getaways, From Haunted Proms to Canine Costume Contests

By Mariana Torres 3 min read

Halloween is checking into hotels with haunted proms, masquerade parties and a guesthouse inspired by Sweeney Todd. From Napa to Jamaica, these eight getaways are giving travelers a reason to leave room in the suitcase for a costume. Your dog might need one, too.

Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort | Scottsdale, Arizona

Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort is dressing up Grand Vista Lounge for an adults-only masquerade party on October 31, from 7 to 10 p.m. Expect performances by Trey and Raun Alosi & The Situation, themed Tito’s Handmade Vodka cocktails, an aerialist, a fire performer and dancing. Guests receive a complimentary mask and can customize it at a decorating station. Tickets start at $49++, and costumes are strongly encouraged.

Hyatt Centric Las Olas | Fort Lauderdale, Florida

Prom night takes a sinister turn at Room 901, the speakeasy inside Hyatt Centric Las Olas. Inspired by Carrie, the space becomes a dark 1970s prom with red and black décor, candlelight, dramatic florals and tuxedo-clad bartenders. Cocktails include the Prom Queen, Carrie Bloody Mary and Bloody Sunrise, while playful prom superlatives add an interactive touch. Even the bathroom gets a horror-film cameo, with Carrie’s blood-covered prom dress on display.

The Meritage Resort and Spa | Napa, California

Dogs get their own Halloween plans at The Meritage Resort and Spa. Its first Howl-O-Ween Yappy Hour, on October 29, brings a costume contest and dog-safe pumpkin treats to the Olive & Hay patio. The Wine & Wag special includes two glasses of bubbles, an appetizer and a dog treat. For an overnight stay, the separate Cabernet & Canine Package includes a $200 resort credit and an in-room welcome Barkuterie board.

Southernmost Beach Resort & Guesthouses | Key West, Florida

At Southernmost Beach Resort & Guesthouses, guests can sleep inside the Halloween scenery. The adults-only Avalon House is becoming a Sweeney Todd-inspired experience through November 2 as part of Key West’s Fantasy Fest season. The 1885 Victorian guesthouse on Duval Street features a barber chair, oversized oven, floating pie tins and macabre props, accompanied by theatrical lighting and a nightly soundtrack. Mrs. Lovett may even make a pop-up appearance.

Sandos Playacar | Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Sandos Playacar is serving up family-friendly Halloween activities, including mini-skull painting, pumpkin decorating, a Thriller dance challenge and trick-or-treating. After sunset, the Main Theater adds face painting, horror attractions and a Haunted Tunnel. A costume contest and Halloween After Party keep the festivities going, while adults can try La Calaca Mezcalita, a citrus cocktail with sour and spicy notes.

Couples Resorts | Jamaica

Couples Resorts is celebrating across its four adults-only Jamaican properties with pumpkin carving, mummy wrapping, trivia and costume contests. Couples Negril goes nautical with a Pirates Cabin dance party, while Couples Swept Away hosts a masquerade ball with masks and black-and-gold attire. Couples Sans Souci adds a “Chills & Thrills” musical pre-show and costume competition. At Couples Tower Isle, the Graveyard Gala includes a Spooktacular Showcase and headphone party.

Hyatt Regency Panama City | Panama City, Panama

The Hyatt Regency Panama City is offering a Spooky Package from October 31 to November 1. It includes Spooky Brunch at its signature Panamanian restaurant, Rulfo, a children’s costume contest, cookie decorating, sauna and Turkish bath access, and a welcome amenity. Separately, Rulfo’s monthlong October Fest offer pairs German sausages with locally brewed Casa Bruja beer.

Secrets and Dreams Playa Mujeres | Playa Mujeres, Mexico

Neighboring Secrets Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort and Dreams Playa Mujeres Golf & Spa Resort offer two approaches to Halloween on the Mexican Caribbean. Dreams welcomes families with beachside trick-or-treating and Kids Club festivities, while Secrets offers an adults-only escape. The resorts’ seasonal programming includes themed celebrations, a costume contest and live rock music, with white-sand beaches providing a tropical backdrop.
