Celebrity Unveils Biggest Europe Season for 2028

SOUTHAMPTON, England - Europe is about to get crowded with Celebrity ships. Celebrity Cruises has announced its largest-ever season in the region for 2028, deploying eight vessels across Northern Europe and the Mediterranean, according to Cruise Industry News.

The headline number is impressive enough, but the ship mix may matter more to travelers: For the first time, four of Celebrity’s Edge-class ships will sail in Europe simultaneously. That gives the cruise line a notably strong presence in a region where the itinerary can be just as important as the ship, and often more so.

Bookings for Celebrity’s 2028 European season will open to the general public Aug. 25, 2026, Cruise Industry News reported.

Eight Celebrity Cruises ships across Europe

The deployment will include Celebrity Xcel, Celebrity Beyond, Celebrity Ascent, Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Eclipse, Celebrity Constellation, Celebrity Summit and Celebrity Infinity.

Celebrity Beyond will return to the United Kingdom and operate seven- to 14-night itineraries from Southampton to Norway, Iceland and other destinations. Celebrity Apex will focus on Scandinavia and the British Isles, while Celebrity Summit will operate cruises in Iceland.

Farther south, Celebrity Xcel, Celebrity Ascent, Celebrity Eclipse and Celebrity Constellation will sail Mediterranean itineraries. The destinations named in the rollout include Italy, Spain, Greece, Turkey, Portugal and Morocco.

Celebrity Infinity will continue sailing in Europe year-round. Its schedule will include Eastern Mediterranean summer itineraries with overnight visits to Alexandria, marking Celebrity Cruises’ return to Egypt after a five-year gap. The ship will then return to Barcelona for the winter, offering cruises to the Canary Islands, Portugal and Morocco.

That year-round component gives the announcement a little more substance than a simple summer capacity increase. Europe is usually discussed as a warm-weather cruise market, but Infinity’s winter program extends Celebrity’s regional presence beyond the familiar peak-season rush.

Galway, Bari and Egypt add itinerary variety

Big deployments can blur into a sea of ship names and port lists. Here, three destination details deserve a closer look.

Celebrity Apex will make the cruise line’s first visit to Galway, Ireland, as part of new 12-night British Isles sailings. For travelers who have already cruised the better-known British Isles routes, a maiden call gives the itinerary a genuine point of distinction.

Celebrity Constellation will return to Bari, Italy, after 10 years, according to Cruise Industry News. Its Bari visits will be included on 10- and 11-night itineraries. Bari adds another option for travelers interested in Italy beyond the usual marquee cruise gateways.

Then there’s Egypt. Celebrity Infinity’s overnight visits to Alexandria will restore a destination that has been absent from Celebrity’s schedules for five years. An overnight call can also make a meaningful difference in a port-intensive region, where a short daytime stop sometimes feels like sightseeing with a stopwatch.

Europe’s cruise competition is building early

Celebrity isn’t making its 2028 move in isolation. Other cruise lines are also committing ships and itineraries to Europe well ahead of departure.

Virgin Voyages is planning its first Scandinavian and Baltic season for summer 2028, according to TravelPulse. That adults-only program adds another competitor in Northern Europe during the same broad travel period Celebrity is targeting with Celebrity Apex, Celebrity Beyond and Celebrity Summit.

Princess Cruises has also emphasized European homeports. Seatrade Cruise News reported that Princess planned to base five ships in Europe in 2026. The dates and fleets differ, of course, but the direction is clear: Europe remains a major battleground for cruise lines trying to secure travelers’ vacation plans early.

Celebrity’s own buildup is visible before the eight-ship season arrives. The cruise line’s 2027-2028 Europe program lists seven ships in the region, followed by the larger eight-ship deployment in 2028.

The booking calculus just got more interesting

My read is that the four Edge-class ships are the real strategic signal. An eight-ship count looks good in a news release, but assigning four ships from Celebrity’s newer series to Europe puts the onboard product front and center. This isn’t only about reaching more ports; it’s a bid to make the ship itself part of the reason to book Europe with Celebrity.

For travelers, the useful move is to compare itineraries before getting attached to a particular vessel. Celebrity Beyond’s Southampton departures, Apex’s British Isles and Scandinavian sailings, Summit’s Iceland program and Infinity’s Egypt cruises are very different vacations. A newer ship may be tempting, but a rarer call such as Galway, Bari or Alexandria could matter more once you’re actually taking the trip.

The Aug. 25, 2026, public booking date is worth noting if a specific ship, sailing length or unusual port is a priority. That doesn’t automatically mean everyone should rush to book on opening day. Pricing information wasn’t included in the announcement, so travelers should still compare cabin categories, cancellation terms and the full port schedule rather than treating “largest-ever” as a synonym for “best value.” It isn’t always.

Still, more ships and a wider geographic spread create a deeper menu of choices. Celebrity’s 2028 season ranges from Iceland and Norway to the Mediterranean, North Africa and the Canary Islands. For cruise fans who like Celebrity but have been waiting for a more distinctive European route, this deployment may finally offer one worth circling.
