The Hudson River Music Festival is set to make its grand opening at Croton Point Park this Saturday.
Long-time attendees may recall the vibrant Clearwater Festival, first organized by folk musician Pete Seeger and his wife Toshi during the 1960s. Known for its rich history, it stands as one of the nation's oldest music festivals.
Now revived under a new title, this beloved event returns to the same scenic location and weekend as the original, which was paused due to financial issues and the global pandemic. The last in-person celebration occurred in 2019.
Continuing its tradition, the festival maintains a strong commitment to environmentalism, with the Hudson River taking center stage. Attendees can anticipate performances from notable artists such as Grahame Lesh & Friends, Preservation Hall Jazz Band, and Steve Earle & Friends, among others.
Festival organizers emphasize that "this family-friendly festival is meant to unite people in a gathering fueled by a shared love for the river, music, and activism."
Visitors can enjoy various vendors offering food and drinks. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Key figures involved in this revamped festival include Mitzi Elkes and Ray Volpe from Riverfest FPS (For Pete's Sake), Michele Augis, co-founder of Harper House, and Tracy Brown, president of Riverkeeper.
