Delta Air Lines has announced a rebranding of its fare products and cabin classes, with updated names and new customer options set to roll out for flights departing October 1 and beyond. The move marks a strategic refresh of the airline's fare structure aimed at simplifying choices and enhancing transparency for travelers.
Under the new structure, several of Delta’s existing product names will be updated. “Main Cabin” will now be referred to as Delta Main, while Delta Comfort will replace the current Comfort Plus, and Delta First will take the place of First Class. The premium cabin offerings — Delta Premium Select and Delta One — will retain their existing names.
The revamped Delta Main category will be subdivided into three fare options: Basic, Classic, and Extra, each tailored to different traveler needs.
- Main Basic replaces Basic Economy and maintains the same restrictions, including seat assignment after check-in, Zone 8 boarding, a cancellation fee resulting in partial eCredit, and no earning of mileage or Medallion status. Access to Delta Sky Clubs is also excluded.
- Main Classic introduces added flexibility and benefits, including advance seat selection, improved boarding priority, same-day standby access, and a full Delta eCredit if canceled. Passengers also earn five miles per dollar spent.
- Main Extra provides the highest tier within Delta Main, offering all Main Classic benefits along with refundability to the original form of payment, higher boarding priority, and seven miles per dollar earned.
While the Basic and Classic options will be available across Delta’s global network, the Extra fare will be limited to flights originating in the U.S. and Canada, as well as select international routes. In markets where Extra is not offered, customers will instead see the airline’s existing Refundable fare option.
This update marks a significant effort by Delta to streamline fare categories and provide clearer distinctions between levels of service and flexibility.
