SEATTLE — Travelers flying through the Pacific Northwest woke up Friday to find lingering fallout from an overnight technology failure at Alaska Airlines, the fifth-largest carrier in the United States.

SEATTLE — A new era in West Coast and Pacific aviation loyalty has arrived in Seattle. Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines have switched on Atmos Rewards, a shared frequent-flyer program that officially opened to travelers on Oct. 9, 2023, according to a press release by Alaska Airlines.

Alaska Airlines is putting a final period on a 20-year chapter of Seattle aviation history, sending the very last of its 12 Boeing 737-900s into long-term storage and ushering in a new era built around the 737 MAX. The decision, revealed last week, removes the oldest jets in the carrier’s Seattle-based fleet and clears room for a wave of newer, more efficient aircraft.
