In a fitting pairing of icons, Royal Caribbean International has announced that legendary singer Diana Ross will serve as the godmother of Star of the Seas, the cruise line’s newest and most anticipated Icon Class ship, launching August 2025 from Port Canaveral (Orlando), Florida.
Ross, whose music has united generations for decades, will headline the naming ceremony in the ship’s AquaTheater, located within the visually striking AquaDome neighborhood, offering panoramic views of the ocean. The event will carry on the longstanding maritime tradition of a godmother bestowing her blessing and protection over the ship, its crew and future guests.
“I am truly honored to join the Royal Caribbean family,” said Ross. “Having spent years of creating beautiful music and memories and bringing people together from all over the world, this feels like a perfect continuation of my journey as godmother of Star of the Seas.”
A Ship Built for Every Generation
Star of the Seas represents the next evolution in family vacations as part of Royal Caribbean’s game-changing Icon Class. The ship will offer seven-night cruises through the Eastern and Western Caribbean, including stops at the cruise line’s award-winning Perfect Day at CocoCay in The Bahamas.
From high-thrill experiences at the Category 6 waterpark to relaxed afternoons in one of the ship’s seven pools, Star was designed to deliver something for everyone. Entertainment highlights include the debut of Back to the Future: The Musical at sea, as well as immersive shows across Royal Caribbean’s lineup of high-tech venues.
With more than 40 dining and drinking options, including the newly introduced Lincoln Park Supper Club, Star invites families and solo travelers alike to indulge in new culinary experiences while enjoying world-class entertainment and design.
“We are thrilled to have Diana Ross join us for the debut of Star of the Seas, the next bold vacation in our revolutionary Icon Class,” said Michael Bayley, president and CEO of Royal Caribbean. “We couldn’t imagine a more fitting godmother for Star than Diana Ross, who is a true icon known for creating music that transcends generations while celebrating life and bringing people together.”
Expanding the Royal Caribbean Experience
Star of the Seas is just the beginning of Royal Caribbean’s expanding portfolio of exclusive Caribbean experiences. The cruise line will open the Royal Beach Club Paradise Island in The Bahamas this December, with Royal Beach Club Cozumel in Mexico following in 2026 and the brand-new Perfect Day Mexico slated for 2027.
