GRAMMY®-Nominated, Latin GRAMMY®-Winning Star Named Godfather of NCL's Norwegian Viva

Unfurl the banners and pop the champagne! Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), a trailblazer in global cruise travel, has announced a chart-topping addition to its family. Music sensation and GRAMMY® nominee, Luis Fonsi, will serve as godfather to NCL's newest ship, the Norwegian Viva.

Fonsi, the multi-platinum Puerto Rican artist best known for his worldwide hit "Despacito," is set to perform and christen the ship during a star-studded ceremony in Miami on November 28, 2023.

"We are thrilled to welcome Latin music icon Luis Fonsi to the NCL family as Godfather of Norwegian Viva and to join us as we christen our newest ship," said David J. Herrera, President of Norwegian Cruise Line. "We cannot wait for him to join us as we celebrate this milestone moment later this year."

Fonsi isn't the only one hitting the high notes. The christening event promises to light up Miami with performances from Latin superstars such as "The Queen of Latin Pop," Paulina Rubio; comedian Marcello Hernandez; and singer Pedro Capó. The "Live it Up!" theme of the Norwegian Viva promises an evening brimming with energy, entertainment, and excitement.

Following Fonsi's traditional nautical champagne bottle-breaking ceremony, the Norwegian Viva will homeport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. From its debut in December 2023, the ship will offer a range of seven-day Caribbean voyages through April 2024. Ports of call include Tortola, British Virgin Islands; St John's, Antigua; Bridgetown, Barbados; Castries, St. Lucia; Philipsburg, St. Maarten and St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. Following the Caribbean season, the ship will set sail for Europe, offering summer cruises departing from Athens, Greece; Lisbon, Portugal; and Rome and Venice, Italy.

The Norwegian Viva is the second ship in NCL's groundbreaking Prima Class. Offering elevated onboard experiences, including the Viva Speedway — a three-level racetrack, and the Indulge Food Hall, featuring 11 unique eateries. Not to mention, the Norwegian Viva also houses the industry's exclusive sustainable cocktail bar, the Metropolitan Bar, and the fastest slides at sea, The Drop and Rush.

In celebration of this thrilling partnership, NCL has curated a Spotify playlist, Live it Up!, featuring hits from Latin music superstars.
