Want to catch Norwegian Aura’s first sailing? There’s a new date to circle. Norwegian Cruise Line has opened bookings for two inaugural Mediterranean voyages, starting with a 10-day trip from Trieste, Italy, to Athens, Greece, on May 2, 2027, TravelPulse reported Oct. 9.
The additions give travelers two earlier chances to sail aboard what TravelPulse describes as Norwegian’s newest and largest ship before it heads to Miami for Caribbean service. They also create a straightforward booking choice: start in Italy and finish in Greece, or reverse direction on a slightly shorter itinerary with a different mix of ports.
Norwegian Aura’s debut moves ahead of May 21
The schedule change rests on Norwegian Aura’s anticipated early delivery. According to Cruise Industry News, the two newly available departures precede the previously announced maiden voyage on May 21, 2027.
That distinction matters if being aboard the first sailing is part of the appeal. May 2 is now the scheduled opening voyage; May 21 remains on the calendar as a seven-day Mediterranean trip from Trieste to Barcelona, according to Cruise Industry News. The announcement adds earlier sailings rather than removing that previously announced departure.
There’s one important qualifier here: early delivery is still described as anticipated. The new voyages are open for booking, with departure dates scheduled for May 2027. For travelers drawn specifically to a debut, that wording deserves attention alongside the itinerary.
Two Mediterranean routes, with different reasons to choose each
May 2: Trieste to Athens in 10 days
The first voyage departs Trieste on May 2, 2027, and sails to Athens. TravelPulse lists calls at Dubrovnik and Split in Croatia; Bar in Montenegro; and Corfu, Santorini and Mykonos in Greece. Cruise Industry News identifies the arrival port for Athens as Piraeus.
This is the choice for travelers who want the earliest scheduled Aura departure. It’s also the longer of the two new sailings, pairing both Dubrovnik and Split with three Greek island calls. The route starts in Italy, but its listed intermediate stops are in Croatia, Montenegro and Greece.
May 12: Athens to Trieste in nine days
The second voyage departs Athens on May 12, 2027, and finishes in Trieste, according to TravelPulse. Its calls are Rhodes, Mykonos, Santorini and Corfu in Greece; Bar in Montenegro; and Split and Zadar in Croatia. Cruise Industry News again specifies Piraeus as the Athens port.
It’s tempting to read this as simply the return trip. Not quite. Comparing the published itineraries, the May 12 departure includes Rhodes and Zadar, while Dubrovnik appears on the May 2 route. Both include Split, Bar, Corfu, Santorini and Mykonos, so the decision isn’t just about which direction suits your plans.
For anyone choosing on destinations rather than first-sailing status, those differences are worth putting ahead of the inaugural label. Dubrovnik points toward May 2; Rhodes and Zadar point toward May 12. Neither itinerary returns to its starting port, so the embarkation and disembarkation cities also belong in the decision.
The booking offer needs a cabin-level comparison
There’s a promotion attached to the new departures. Cruise Industry News reports that travelers booking them can use Norwegian’s Fall Flash Sale, which advertises 50% off all cruises and up to $750 in onboard credit per stateroom when booking a balcony stateroom or above.
The cabin restriction is the useful detail behind the headline number. The advertised onboard credit applies to balcony accommodations and higher categories; “up to” is a ceiling, not a promise that every qualifying reservation receives $750. The amount is also stated per stateroom, not per passenger.
Cruise Industry News says the promotion is combinable with Norwegian’s Free at Sea package. The reports do not provide starting fares, the sale deadline or full offer terms, so they do not establish a bottom-line price comparison between the two voyages. Compare the actual fare and credit attached to your selected cabin rather than treating the maximum advertised credit as cash off the cruise price.
Ocean Heights brings the family focus outdoors
For families weighing the ship as carefully as the ports, TravelPulse identifies Ocean Heights as one of Aura’s planned features. The multilevel outdoor activity complex will include waterslides, a ropes course, an obstacle course and carnival-style games.
That’s a specific reason to look beyond the newest-ship label: several types of outdoor activities are grouped into one complex. It gives families something concrete to consider alongside the Mediterranean itinerary, without having to rely on the broader promise of a bigger ship.
What follows the inaugural Mediterranean sailings
Aura’s European schedule continues after the two new departures. According to Cruise Industry News, the May 21, 2027, voyage from Trieste to Barcelona will call at Valletta, Malta; Salerno, Italy; and Rome’s port of Civitavecchia, Italy. A 13-day transatlantic voyage from Barcelona to Miami follows.
From June through October 2027, Aura is scheduled to operate seven-day Eastern Caribbean cruises from Miami, calling at Puerto Plata, St. Thomas, Tortola and Great Stirrup Cay, Cruise Industry News reports. Its winter 2027-28 program shifts to seven-day Western Caribbean voyages visiting Roatan, Costa Maya, Cozumel and Harvest Caye.
For now, the immediate choice is in the Mediterranean. May 2 offers the earliest scheduled departure and Dubrovnik; May 12 offers Rhodes and Zadar in the opposite direction. Being first has its appeal, but the better booking is the route and cabin offer you actually want.
